A picturesque almond grove in the South Australian countryside may not be the place you’d expect to find a state-of-the-art research and development operation, but for seed producers Rob and Ann Damin the great outdoors is where it all happens.
Their company, Pasture Genetics, uses the latest technology to create top-grade pasture seed that’s in high demand with growers at home and beyond.
The company itself has also enjoyed impressive growth. Its 25 staff work with 390 growers across Australia to produce 9000 tonnes of premium seed a year.
“We learned pretty early on that you have to constantly reinvest if you want to grow, but that can be scary. It’s like going to the casino – it’s all on the table,” Rob says.
By listening carefully to their advisers and investing with caution, Rob and Ann planted the seeds to their own success.
Pasture Genetics now supplies its product to 30 countries and has become one of the most innovative and forward-looking agribusiness companies in the world.
