New research from CommBank Rewards shows that people want to thank their dad / father in their life for providing life lessons and help this Father’s Day.             

When it comes to gifts the average amount people plan to spend this Father’s Day is $150. This compares with around $74 for Mother’s Day.

The top gift people plan to treat the father in their life to is a nice meal. Thankfully, this is also the top gift dads want. 

CBA Executive General Manager, Everyday Banking, Kate Crous said: “During these times people are looking for great gift ideas as well as ways to save when they shop whether it’s through cashback, deals or discounts.

According to the research dads say the worst gift they could receive are socks or underwear.

Top of the list on what people want to thank their dads for are:

  1. Helping me when I need it (58 per cent)
  2. Life lessons (49 per cent)
  3. Fixing things (35 per cent)
  4. Teaching me important things / useful topics (34 per cent)
  5. Humour / comic relief (33 per cent)

The top ways dads want to enjoy Father’s Day this year:

  1. Quality time with children (46 per cent)
  2. Enjoying a nice meal (18 per cent)
  3. Something outdoors (12 per cent)

The most popular gifts dads want this Father’s Day are:

  1. Enjoying a nice meal out (31 per cent)
  2. Technology (17 per cent)
  3. An experience for eg four wheel driving or hot air balloon (11 per cent)
