COMMONWEALTH BANK RECALLS ‘COSMIC LIGHT BEAM TORCH’

Commonwealth Bank has issued an immediate recall of its School Banking ‘Cosmic Light Beam Torch’ due to a potential safety issue.

While we have not received any reports of injury and the reward was deemed to meet relevant product safety standards, concerns have been raised about the potential for a child to access button batteries inside the torch.

Potential hazard:

  • The torch contains four button batteries that may be accessed by unscrewing the back of the item.
  • If a young child gains access to these batteries and ingests them, they may suffer serious injuries.

We take the safety of our customers seriously and are immediately recalling the torch as a precautionary measure. We are also taking steps to make schools and parents aware of our actions.

The recall only applies to customers who have redeemed the ‘Cosmic Light Beam Torch’ as part of the Commonwealth Bank School Banking rewards program.

Customers who have redeemed this item should remove it from their child’s possession and dispose of it safely.

Commonwealth Bank apologises to its customers for any inconvenience caused by this recall.

Any customer affected by this recall may order a replacement item from our rewards program through their School Banking co-ordinator.

To assist customers with their enquiries, we have extended the School Banking helpdesk hours this week. From today until Friday, 28 August, customers can contact us from 9am to 6pm (AEST) on 1800 674 496. From 31 August, the helpdesk will resume normal hours, available Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm (AEST).
