Keeping your online banking secure is very important to us

Keeping online banking secure

Security is a top priority for Commonwealth Bank and we’re committed to keeping our customers’ information safe.

Commonwealth Bank’s Executive General Manager of Digital, Pete Steel, said it is crucial only you know your client ID and password.

“It’s important to us that our customers know how they can keep their banking details safe, such as never sharing passwords or PIN codes.

“In the same way we recommend customers never share the PIN code for their ATM card or credit card, we also recommend customers never share their NetBank or CommBank app client ID and passwords.

“This includes only entering your NetBank client ID and password on the CommBank site or CommBank app. Some websites or smartphone apps may offer services where they ask for your NetBank client ID and password. We always recommend you only enter these into the CommBank website or CommBank app,” Mr Steel said.

The reason, Mr Steel said, is because Commonwealth Bank offers the protection of a 100 percent security guarantee.

“Commonwealth Bank offers customers a 100 per cent security guarantee against online fraud where our customer is not at fault and has taken steps to protect their client ID and password.  We may not be able to provide this guarantee if customers share those details,” Mr Steel said.

To help out our customers, we have a dedicated Security and Privacy page on the CommBank website with information on staying safe online.

It includes information such as:

How we protect you when banking online

How to create a strong password

Tips on protecting your privacy online
