Flexible working

  • As we build tomorrow’s bank today, we’ll continue to experiment with new patterns of work that balance the needs our customers, teams and people.

  • Reimagined ways of working

Many of our teams have adopted hybrid working, where we complement coming into the workplace with working remotely. When the balance is right, we leverage the best of independent, focused time with in-person collaboration and connection.

We support our people with the flexibility to balance where work is done with at least half their time each month connecting in office. We also have many other flexible working options available including changing start and finish times, part-time arrangements and job share to name a few. Talk to us about how these arrangements might work in the role you’re interested in.

Check out some of our locations our people can work from.

  • Adjust your working hours

Working 9-5, five days a week doesn't work for everyone. Many of our roles provide the flexibility to adjust your start and finish times or to work fewer hours than a standard full-time job, while providing all the perks of a (pro-rata) full-time role.  Examples of these include working a shorter fortnight, working part-time or job-sharing.

Even if a role doesn’t specify part-time or job-share, we always encourage you to ask whether it’s available.

  • Extra leave options

Want to spend school holidays with your kids? Planning a week-long hike? Over and above annual leave, sick leave and long service leave, we offer further leave options to eligible employees. These include parental leave, additional purchased annual leave (up to 4 weeks), career breaks, carers leave, Sorry Business leave, pet leave, gender affirmation leave, family planning leave, community service leave, study leave, compassionate leave and unpaid leave. We even offer up to 5 days of life leave a year as an incentive for our people to recharge and use their annual leave allowance within the year it’s allocated.

Financial wellbeing

  • Competitive pay & banking benefits

We look after our people with competitive salaries, superannuation, salary packaging and performance incentive options.

Our Employee Banking Team is your VIP support when it comes to investment and insurance options and services. You’ll also be able to enjoy a range of competitive discounts on accounts, credit cards, personal and home loans, insurance, financial planning and much more.

  • Salary sacrifice options

    • Super: Get more from your super by contributing some of your salary or potential bonus payments into your super fund.
    • Shares: Under our Employee Salary Sacrifice Share plan, you may be able to contribute your salary or bonus payments to buy an additional $5000 worth of shares every year on a pre-tax basis.
    • Childcare fees: Plan ahead for day-care fees by sacrificing your salary to pay for one of our corporate childcare centres across Sydney CBD and South Eveleigh.
    • New or used car: Keen to upgrade? With our personal leased motor vehicle options, you can salary sacrifice a new or pre-loved car. This scheme includes vehicle finance along with bundling key running costs.
    • Other options: These can include professional memberships, airline memberships, purchased additional leave, car parking and workplace giving, just to name a few.
  • CBA Group Super Plan

Want to get ahead on your retirement? Our default super fund is the CBA Group Super Plan with Australian Retirement Trust (ART). You can take advantage of fees that are much lower than the average super fund, as well as flexible investment and insurance options.

Kyle's story

“I recently became a new dad to a beautiful baby girl. We lived in Sydney and loved it, but with our wider family living in Queensland, we knew we needed to be closer to them. I spoke to my manager about my options, and we came up with a plan for me to work remotely in Toowoomba while still supporting my stakeholders in Sydney.

"When my little girl was born, my partner wasn't able to take much time off for maternity leave. However, I had the opportunity to take 12 weeks' parental leave and some annual leave I had saved up. Overall I had almost five months off work to be with my daughter while my partner worked part-time. If it wasn’t for the support I received from my manager and CommBank, I wouldn’t have been able to relocate or take time off to experience being a new dad.”

  • Workplace giving

For more than a century, our people have been building brighter futures for Australians in need. Through workplace giving, CommBank supports our people to make pre-tax donations which are then matched dollar for dollar by the bank, amplifying the impact in the community.

We have long-term partnerships with The Clown Doctors, helping bring laughter to sick kids in hospitals, and Can4Cancer, in partnership with Tour de Cure, which is one of Australia’s largest corporate fundraising programs helping to change lives and end cancer.

And we also support the passions of our people. Each year, staff can nominate an organisation they care about to receive a Community Grant, helping them to continue the important work they do.

  • Indigenous support

The Jawun Indigenous Secondment Program supports Indigenous organisations to deliver their own strategies and visions. This way we can help create real change and improve lives within Indigenous communities.
