Specialist areas

Financial Services

Looking after the Business & Private Banking area of the business, we provide decision support, business partnering to identify opportunities and improvements, management reporting and analysis of financial results. As well as business planning and forecasting, we also maintain a sound financial control environment.

As an internal consulting team, we help business owners across the Bank to shape and develop business improvement initiatives. This includes shaping and developing business improvement and growth, evaluating strategic options, developing funding proposals and engaging stakeholders.

Providing financial support across Commonwealth Bank, our focus is on performance management, advice and governance and reporting. As well as managing CommBank’s taxation requirements, we coordinate financial plans and forecasts and advise on business cases for internal projects and acquisitions and divestments.

We’re responsible for the worldwide protection of CommBank’s people, information, intellectual property and assets from fraud, loss or harm. As well as providing a full range of physical security, financial crime, investigation and anti-money laundering services, we manage global travel security and crisis and emergency management arrangements.

Regularly providing quality information and analysis to investment analysts, we coordinate shareholder requirements, such as the annual report, AGM, dividend payments and the share registry.

Our specialist advice in property and procurement involves working with stakeholders to make the most of third-party supplier relationships for everyday business necessities. We also work hard to ensure we provide great environments for our people and customers.

We’re responsible for providing independent, objective assurance to the Board Audit Committee regarding risk management and control frameworks. Providing feedback on existing or proposed processes and controls, we maintain independence as part of the corporate governance role.

We manage non-traded market risk, funding and liquidity risk, execution of wholesale funding transactions and the management of CommBank’s capital. We also support the decision-making processes of the Asset and Liability Committee, ExCo and the Board.

Supporting Institutional Banking and Markets, we provide daily P&Ls for the trading businesses, monthly performance reporting, budgeting, forecasting and special reviews for both onshore and offshore locations. We also ensure a robust financial control framework safeguards the businesses assets.

Group Corporate Affairs

We are responsible for enhancing and protecting Commonwealth Bank’s reputation. We do this by driving the positioning on key issues that impact on the Group, the banking industry and the economy. As a trusted adviser to our business, we provide valued advice and focus on building long-term relationships with our key stakeholders and opinion leaders within and external to Commonwealth Bank.

Group Strategic Development

We help to shape the future of our organisation, informing the CEO, Executive Committee and Board as they set the agenda and direction of the Group. We work closely with internal stakeholders on ideas for growth, business and products, and to execute projects. Our position in the Group allows us to leverage our cross-divisional knowledge and relationships, whilst remaining independent, objective and impartial.

Human Resources

We provide extra motivation and incentive to our people, through performance and reward programs, employee share plans and our group superannuation fund.

We specialise in workplace relations, occupational health and safety and worker’s compensation.

Partnering with core business units, we provide tactical and strategic advice to ensure the business achieves its goals.

We look after the Human Resources Direct team (our employee contact centre), talent acquisition across the business, human resources analytics and process improvement.

Our team oversees talent development, talent management and diversity and inclusion.

Risk Management

We manage the risk arising from maturity and repricing mismatches between assets and liabilities and from trading operations undertaken to service customers. Additional sources of market risk include Liquidity and Funding Risk, Structural Foreign Exchange Risk, Non-Traded Equity Price Risk and Residual Value Risk.

Developing and implementing Commonwealth Bank's operational risk frameworks and methodologies, we also ensure compliance with regulatory regimes.

We ensure the successful delivery of Risk Management’s portfolio of projects, as well as leading the transformation of Risk Management and risk culture across Commonwealth Bank

We develop and implement Group-wide best practice frameworks and methodologies for credit policy, provisioning and other credit related areas. We’re also responsible for the Group’s security documentation and larger exposures to customer’s facing financial difficulty.

We are responsible for enterprise level reporting, validation of key risk models/rating tools, setting the methodology for economic and regulatory capital management, risk data quality and integrity management.
