Important information for CommInsure customers

5 March 2016

We understand that making a life insurance claim is done under difficult circumstances for our customers and their families. For every individual customer case, we always aim to do the right thing.

Recent media reports have focused attention on some of CommInsure’s product definitions. Below are some facts on our definitions.

Our definitions are being updated

Life insurance definitions constantly evolve and improve.  We regularly review our life insurance offering to ensure our definitions reflect current medical standards and are able to be better understood by customers and applied by medical practitioners.

As a result of our experience, the policy relating to organ transplants for customers with a terminal illness claim was updated in early 2015 to clearly state that the possibility of an organ transplant will not be considered in the assessment of terminal illness.

Trauma heart attack definition

CommInsure’s Trauma heart attack definition pays for severe heart attacks and considers a range of medical factors when assessing a claim, not just the Troponin levels. Medical advances and improvements in detection technology mean our current definition needs to be updated. We have already commenced work on updating this definition and it was scheduled for implementation in October 2016. This has now been accelerated to be completed as soon as possible.
