We will do whatever we can to lend in response to bushfires across Australia.

As Australians band together to face devastating fires, we’ve put a range of initiatives in place to provide ongoing support for people and communities in impacted areas.

We have an emergency assistance package available  for our customers affected by bushfires around Australia. This package is also available to our customers who are volunteer firefighters.

Support available for you (including if you are a volunteer firefighter):

  • Customised payment arrangements for your home loan, credit card or personal loan.
  • Waiving fees and charges.
  • Temporary overdrafts, additional loans or emergency credit limit increases (subject to credit approval).
  • Waiving fees and notice periods for early access to term deposits.
  • Other individual support options may also be available to you, including cash grants.

  • For CommInsure customers, we are able to assist with emergency accommodation if your home has been damaged.
  • We can also expedite claims to CommInsure for customers seeking help through their home, contents and car insurance.

Support for your business:

  • Loan restructuring for your existing business loans.
  • Considering requests for additional loans including emergency credit limit increases (subject to credit approval).
  • Waiving fees for temporary and damaged merchant EFTPOS terminals, as well as merchant fees on EFTPOS terminals and e-Commerce facilities until trading recommences.
  • Waiving fees and notice periods for early access to term deposits.
  • Waiving other selected fees and charges.
  • Other additional assistance might also be available for your business, including cash grants.

Support for your community:

CommBank has offered more than $13 million in support to communities impacted by bushfires and naturals disasters.

CanGive Bushfire Appeal:

  • We’ve launched the national CanGive Bushfire Appeal, with donations to Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery fund accepted through the CommBank app and in branch. 

Our donations to Australian Red Cross: 

  • CommBank has already made a $250,000 donation to the Australian Red Cross and this is in addition to the $1 million we donated last year in response to the ongoing drought.
  • We’re long term supporters of the Australian Red Cross and we are accepting donations in branch and via the CommBank app for the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery fund.

Bushfire Recovery Grants: 

  • CommBank launched the Bushfire Recovery Grants to assist the longer term recovery of community organisations directly affected by the bushfires, with applications now open.
  • We will match all donations to the CanGive Bushfire Appeal via CommBank app and in branch dollar for dollar with these matched funds directed to the CommBank Bushfire Recovery Grants program.
  • We’re expecting to fund up to $10 million in projects in local communities across Australia.
  • We will provide grants up to $50,000 for community organisations, fire services, schools and non-government organisations to assist with rebuilding facilities. 

$1 million bid for Shane Warne's Baggy Green cap:

  • We placed the winning bid of $1 million at auction to purchase Shane Warne’s iconic baggy green cap, with proceeds going to the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund.
  • CommBank is taking the cap on a national tour to raise further funds for bushfire affected communities. At the completion of the tour, the cap will be on permanent exhibition at the Bradman Museum in Bowral, NSW.
