StepPay lets you split your purchases of $100 or more into four, anywhere. It's a way to buy now, pay later.
If you're an eligible CommBank customer, all you need is a few minutes to get going.
To make your repayments, you can link StepPay to Smart Access or other eligible account types that may better suit your needs.
Make sure you have the CommBank app installed on your mobile device.
On your mobile, make sure you've updated your CommBank app to the latest version.
Log in to the CommBank app and search ‘StepPay’
Choose StepPay in the Products & services section and tap Apply now.
Provide information about your income, expenses and any other types of credit.
Review and confirm your required StepPay spend limit.
Activate StepPay, choose your repayment account, set your PIN and add StepPay to your digital wallet.
You're all done! Get ready to make purchases anywhere Mastercard is accepted, in-store and online.

^ Cashback promotion applies to eligible CommBank account holders who are new to StepPay. You must apply and be approved for StepPay between 8 July 2025 and 30 September 2025. 5% cashback is calculated on total spend within the first 30 days from approval of StepPay, subject to a maximum cashback payment of $50 per customer. Cashback will be credited directly to your StepPay account as ‘STEPPAY5’. Cashback will be credited within 90 days. Cashback will clear against any outstanding instalments (including future due instalments on balances owing). Where there is no balance owing, the cashback will be paid from your StepPay account into your linked repayment account under 'StepPay refund'. Limit of one cashback payment per customer. Offer available to new StepPay accounts, you will not be eligible if you currently hold or have held a StepPay account within the last 12 months. You will be ineligible for the cashback if your account is closed or in default at any time prior to the cashback being credited to your account. We reserve the right to close the offer prior to 30 September 2025.
If you're experiencing technical difficulties, or don't see our notification in your CommBank app, head straight to the Cards section in the app. You'll be able to see all of your CommBank cards – and StepPay should be there, waiting for you to activate.
