Who can apply

To hold a World Debit Mastercard, you must:

  • Be an individual;
  • Be aged at least 18 years old;
  • Have an Australian residential address, or otherwise be subject to exception;
  • Have an eligible CommBank transaction account; and
  • Have an existing linked Debit Mastercard.

  • Pensioner Security Account

  • Private Bank Account

How to apply

  1. Log on to the CommBank app
  2. Tap Cards
  3. Swipe to the debit card you want to switch
  4. Tap ‘Switch debit card’
  5. Follow the prompts

 

What happens next

  1. You’ll get a digital debit card straight away, so you can start using it immediately.
  2. Your physical card will arrive within 5-7 business days.
  3. We’ll close your old card once you’ve switched.
  4. You'll need to update things like recurring payments, digital wallets and card limits.

Travel with peace of mind, with included travel insurance on the World Debit Mastercard for you and your family for up to 21 days every trip.

You can access international travel insurance when you spend at least $500 in a single transaction using your World Debit Mastercard on prepaid travel costs and activate your cover before each trip via NetBank or the CommBank app.

Make sure to activate your cover before each trip to receive comprehensive cover. You can also increase your cover with a range of upgrades if you need extra protection for existing medical conditions, longer trips, adventurous activities, or are aged 80 years or over.

How do I switch to a World Debit Mastercard?

You may be eligible to upgrade to a World Debit Mastercard if you have an existing Debit Mastercard linked to an eligible CommBank transaction account.

Things you should know

*Eligible World Debit Mastercard holders can earn 0.5 CommBank Yello points per $1 spent on eligible domestic purchases (up to 750 points per month) and up to 1.5 CommBank Yello points per $1 spent on eligible international purchases.

Eligibility is typically assessed at the beginning of each month. To qualify for points, you must:

  • hold an active World Debit Mastercard linked to an eligible transaction account**; and
  • be assessed as a CommBank Yello Plus, Gold or Diamond customer at that time.

**Eligible transaction accounts include

  • Smart Access,
  • Everyday Offset,
  • Pensioner Security Account,
  • Private Bank Account, and
  • Complete Access.

1 The Commonwealth Bank of Australia does not charge you a fee when you withdraw funds from international ATMs, make in-store purchases overseas or shop online at international merchants using your World Debit Mastercard. However, third party providers may charge you a separate fee for their services (which is not waived by us).

Present the valid offer QR code to the cashier and redeem the offer. Please note, offers vary by location. You will need to activate your travel insurance before leaving Australia and spend at least $500 in a single transaction on eligible prepaid travel costs before leaving Australia for each trip to be eligible for international travel insurance cover. You will not be covered unless you meet both requirements. Upgrades must be applied for and require an extra premium which is not covered by the World Debit Mastercard Travel Insurance.
