Our commitment to your organisation

At CommBank we recognise not-for-profit organisations are vital to thriving local communities and play a crucial role in enhancing the social, cultural and environmental wellbeing of society.

For over 100 years, Commonwealth Bank has played an essential part in the growth of Australian communities including the not-for-profit organisations that help to sustain and strengthen them. Today, our commitment has never been stronger.

It’s important to us that all our not-for-profit and community customers have access to the best banking services and solutions whether you’re a global non-government organisation or a local community group. Read more about our Society Cheque Account which offers no account keeping fees and no monthly service fee – it’s just one of the ways we can work with you to help your dollars and cents go further for your cause.

We believe we have the right team, the right technology, the right attitude and the right values to meet the unique financial needs of our not-for-profit customers.

Our people

At CommBank our specialised not-for-profit sector bankers are fully-focussed on serving the needs of our cause-based customers, such as schools, charities, disability services and the many more areas the sector covers.

We pride ourselves in knowing our not-for-profit customers well. Being involved and engaged is not a nice-to-have, but a key part of our service.

Our transaction banking specialists understand the importance of protecting the flow of funds into your organisation. Our solutions are designed to drive efficiencies and deliver maximum benefits to your cause.

Our specialist not-for-profit investment team can help you put in place an investment policy tailored to your organisation’s aspirations and risk appetite.

In your world it’s the people that make the difference and that’s true in our world as well. Our local bankers live and breathe their communities.

We have Australia’s largest branch network, reaching right across the country, and our Business Service Centre is a virtual branch with bankers based here in Australia available 24/7.

Not-for-profit sector banking isn’t just something a few of us feel passionate about, it’s in the DNA of our business.

We understand you need absolute confidence in your banking partner and that you want your bank to not only deliver the right financial solutions, but to also do the right thing by communities.

Through our partnership with peak body Our Community, we’re working to build financial capability in the not-for-profit sector and reform banking solutions. Our customers benefit from a wide range of value-add programs that go beyond banking, including events, training, financial guides especially for not-for-profits, and access to valuable tools through our partnership with Our Community. 2018 NFP Governance and Performance Study

With over 2,000 participants, the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) 2018 NFP Governance and Performance Study remains the largest of its kind in Australia.

This year the Study focused on the areas of innovation, cybersecurity, culture, the aged care sector, and the traits and characteristics of NFP directors.

Key results showed that:

  • 44% of directors believe their organisation is less innovative than it should be
  • More than half of the NFP directors surveyed reported that cybersecurity was considered an operational and not a board issue, while 4% of directors believed that cybersecurity was not relevant for their organisation
  • 58% of respondents were either not aware of, or did not know much about Safe Harbour legislation and the impact it may have on directors’ personal liability.

You can download the 2018 Study on the AICD website.
