What is a reference interest rate?

A reference interest rate is a base rate that applies to a home loan. Your annual percentage rate (interest rate) is determined by starting with the reference interest rate and adding or subtracting any premium or discount (the margin). This means the interest rate that applies to your home loan may be higher or lower than the reference interest rate, depending on the margin that applies to your loan.
