What's covered

When you activate your insurance in NetBank or the CommBank app, you’ll receive a policy with a high level of included cover - here’s an overview of what’s included.

Our insurance covers more than you - your spouse or partner and up to 10 dependent children travelling with you are also covered if they travel with you for the entire journey. To have a comprehensive level of cover, you must include their details when you activate your policy for them to be covered.

How it works

Get cover in three easy steps:

  1. Activate via NetBank or the CommBank app
    - For NetBank, go to: Settings > Travel Insurance activation
    - For the CommBank app, go to: top left drop down > Overseas Travel > Get travel insurance
  2. Add optional extras
    Extend your cover by purchasing upgrade options such as increased cover for Rental vehicle excess, increased Snow cover or increased Cruise cover.^
  3. Receive your Certificate of Insurance
    Your Certificate will be emailed to you with your personalised policy number and cover details.

If you activate while travelling there will be a 3 day waiting period before you receive the activated level of cover.*

If you don’t activate you’ll receive Base cover which includes personal liability cover and unlimited overseas medical assistance and hospital expenses only.*

When you're away

Don’t forget to take a copy of your Certificate of Insurance with you. It includes your policy number and contact details if you need assistance. You received this via email when you purchased your cover.

Managing your policy

Once you have purchased your policy it’s easy to manage, simply click on the button to perform any of these tasks:

  • Download your Certificate of Insurance
  • Change your journey details
  • Increase your cover
  • Update your contact information
  • Cancel your policy.

Have your policy number and mobile handy, you’ll need these to log on.

How to claim

  • Your travel insurance claim may require different supporting documentation (e.g. medical reports, invoices, purchase receipts, and/or police reports)

FAQs

Q: What will happen if I don’t activate my insurance before I travel?

A: If you don’t activate your insurance before you travel, you will receive Base cover which includes personal liability cover and overseas emergency medical assistance and hospital expenses only. Note: This is not a comprehensive policy. Upon activating your included insurance, you will receive a policy with a higher level of cover.

Q: Can an additional cardholder activate the International Travel Insurance included with Credit Cards?

A: Yes, an additional cardholder can activate this insurance and be eligible for the same travel insurance benefits as the Primary cardholder even if they aren’t travelling with the Primary cardholder.

Q: Does International Travel Insurance included with Credit Cards cover domestic travel?

A: No. If you require travel insurance for a trip within Australia you should consider purchasing a CBA Travel Insurance policy (issued and managed by Allianz Global Assistance).

Q: Do any restrictions or exclusions apply to my Travel Insurance?

A: Yes, restrictions, exclusions (including for persons aged 80 years or over), limits, excesses and premiums may apply. More information is available on the CommBank website, and in the Credit Card Insurances Product Disclosure Statement and Information Booklet.
