Our two travel insurance options

  • International travel insurance ​​​included ​​​​on ​eligible cards

    International travel insurance for cardholders, their spouse, and up to ​​​8​​​​​ accompanied children travelling with them for the entire journey, is available with eligible CommBank 

    For eligible ​​cards (Gold Awards1, Platinum Awards2, Diamond Awards2, Smart, Ultimate, Qantas Business Rewards credit cards and World Debit Mastercard) to receive cover, before you leave Australia you must:

    1.    Spend at least $500 in a single transaction on your prepaid travel costs (e.g. airline tickets, hotels, tours etc) using your eligible credit card; and 

    2.    Activate your travel insurance. 

    Customers will also qualify if the $500 worth of prepaid travel costs is redeemed using CommBank Awards points or Travel Booking travel credits (prior to 29 September 2026) or using CommBank Yello points or Travel booking credits (from 29 September 2026). Customers will need to provide a copy of the letter/statement/email confirming the redemption, or a screenshot of the Travel Booking confirmation with the payment method.

    Doing more than relaxing? Consider additional cover if you’re participating in activities like skiing, motorbiking or adventure sports. A premium will apply.

  • Travel insurance (domestic & international)

    Travel Insurance has ​​you covered with international and domestic travel insurance plans that you can tailor for yourself (as the policyholder) and up to ​9​​​ people travelling with you for the entire journey.

    Plans include:

    Comprehensive:

    • Cover to protect you from lost luggage to cancellations, overseas medical emergency assistance (international plans only), choose your cancellation coverage amount, lost luggage and travel documents, loss of income and permanent disability.Comprehensive cover including unlimited³ overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses cover and more

    Domestic:

    • Protection for trips inside Australia including cover for lost luggage and travel documents, $10,000 in cancellation fees and lost deposits, travel delay expenses and accidental death.

Activate or Purchase a Policy

  • Customers will need to purchase or activate Travel Insurance via the CommBank App.  

    1.  Search ‘Travel Insurance’ 
    2.  Select ‘Travel Insurance’ from the search results.  

    Keep in mind, we’ll need to provide some of your personal details during the purchase or activation (and the personal details of all cardholders on the relevant eligible card) to our insurance provider, XCover. During your activation or purchase you’ll be transferred to the XCover website. Any further Personal Information (including health information) you provide to XCover directly will be handled by XCover in accordance with the XCover - Privacy Policy.  

Travel insurance checklist

  1. Tell us before you go – register your travel destinations in the CommBank app.
  2. Consider organising your travel insurance cover as soon as your trip is booked.
  3. ​​Once you’ve purchased Travel Insurance, or met the spend criteria and activated the international travel insurance available with eligible cards, XCover will email a Certificate of Insurance confirming the period of cover, premium, cover options and excess, and any variances to the standard terms.​​​​​
  4. Bring a copy of your Certificate of Insurance with you as it may come in handy

  6. Use Lock Block, Limit for your CommBank credit card or Lock, Block for your CommBank debit card

How to make a claim

  • ​​​For policies purchased or activated from 29 September 2026:​​

    ​​​Your claim will be managed by XCover:​​

    • ​​​Make a claim online; or ​​

    • ​​​call XCover, 8am–5pm Mon–Fri and 9am–4pm Sat (Sydney/Melbourne time) using the phone number displayed on ​​your policy or activation e-mail.​​

    ​​​For policies purchased or activated prior to 29 September 2026:​​

    ​​Your claim will be managed by Cover-More​​:​​​​​

    ​​​Cover-More, 8am–5pm Mon–Fri and 9am–4pm Sat (Sydney/Melbourne time).
