In 2010, two colourful, vibrant husband and wife duos successfully applied for a tender the government had put out for a resource management centre. Elaine, Goran, Sandie and Charlie then set up The Green Shed as a way of preventing 90% of waste going to landfill, by offering the public an alternative place to deposit their unwanted items, which are then sold from two massive resource centres in the ACT.
The two couples are also committed to donating to small, local Canberra charities through their "The Green Shed Charity Day" which is held once a month. All proceeds the sheds make on these days go to charity. They also recently launched The Green Shed Day in the city, where they provide free gelato, jumping castles and face painting for Canberra families with the objective of raising awareness.
