CommBank Business Innovation Awards

Applications open July 2026.

The CommBank Business Innovation Awards will celebrate small and medium Australian businesses who have innovated to develop new or improved products, services or processes – from technology adoption and customer experience to sustainability, new business models and better ways of working.

Soon to be open to small and medium businesses across Australia, even if they don’t bank with CommBank, the Awards are backed by practical support from CommBank and our partners including the University of Melbourne, Square Peg, Deloitte and AWS.

The awards will include cash grants, mentoring, University of Melbourne hosted bootcamps, AWS credits, Deloitte and AWS workshops and a Seattle learning experience.

Applications open in July 2026.

Build practical innovation skills, on us

CommBank has partnered with the University of Melbourne to provide online innovation training for Australian small and medium businesses through the Wade Institute of Entrepreneurship.

The online, self-paced course is available to people across Australia, including business owners, employees and aspiring entrepreneurs. The cost of the training is covered by CommBank and you don’t need to own a business or bank with CommBank to take part.

You can complete individual modules or the full course. Participants who complete all modules receive a certificate of completion from the Wade Institute.

Frequently asked questions

No. The training is open to Australian residents, aged over 18. You don’t need to be a CommBank customer or sign up to a CommBank product to access the training.

No. The training fee is covered by CommBank.

The training is a self paced, online course made up of practical modules. You can complete individual modules or the full program. Participants who complete all modules receive a certificate from the Wade Institute of Entrepreneurship.

Applications are expected to open in July. You can register your interest now to be notified when applications open.

  • The CommBank-commissioned research was conducted by YouGov between 16 and 24 October 2025. The survey was completed by a nationally representative sample of 500 Australian small and medium business owners and senior decision makers. Results were weighted by location and business size to be representative of Australian small and medium businesses. Small businesses were defined as having 1–19 employees and medium businesses as having 20–199 employees.
