Help & support
Follow the instructions below to disable card surcharging on your CommBank EFTPOS terminal and review any associated payment systems.
The action you need to take depends on the terminal and payment systems your business uses.
If your business doesn’t currently apply a card surcharge, you don’t need to take action.
Important: If you are using an app (such as Smart Sync or Smart Hospitality), you must remove card surcharge settings from your point-of-sale system.
If these settings remain enabled after your terminal is updated, your point-of-sale system may show a higher amount than the amount processed by the terminal. This may cause reconciliation issues until the point-of-sale settings are updated.
Once your terminal has been updated, you will no longer be able to apply a card surcharge through your Smart terminal.
If you currently apply a card surcharge, check both your Practice Management Software and your Smart Health terminal before 1 October 2026.
Step 1: Update your Practice Management Software
Remove card surcharge settings from your Practice Management Software. Contact your software provider if you need help changing these settings.
Step 2: Update your Smart Health terminal
Important: If surcharge settings remain enabled in your Practice Management Software after your terminal is updated, the software may show a higher amount than the amount processed by the terminal. This may cause reconciliation issues until the software settings are updated.
For Smart Health support, call 1800 222 484, Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm Sydney/Melbourne time.
Once your terminal has been updated, you will no longer be able to apply a card surcharge through your Essential Lite terminal.
For Essential Plus and Quest, surcharging is controlled through the connected point-of-sale system.
