Secure Internet Shopping

  • Secure Internet Shopping provides a more secure way to shop online
  • It offers added protection against fraudulent use of your card
  • Secure Internet Shopping utilises NetCode SMS to make it even safer

  • It’s a security feature used in our online banking service, NetBank, to authorise certain transactions and activities
  • NetCode SMS is also used to authorise some purchases on websites and is supported by MasterCard® SecureCode™ and Verified by Visa®
  • Websites with NetCode SMS can be easily identified by these logos:

  • NetCode SMS offers greater security and convenience when shopping on certain sites by asking you to enter a unique password
  • It’s a simple step to help ensure that you, and no one else, are accessing your account
  • When finalising a purchase, you may be prompted to generate and enter a NetCode SMS
  • The single-use password is sent to your mobile phone or generated by your NetCode Token device
  • This password is only valid for 30 seconds, and a new password is required for every transaction
  • If you’re registered for NetCode SMS through NetBank, you can already use Secure Internet Shopping
  • If you’re not registered for NetCode SMS, you can do so by:
    • Logging on to NetBank
    • Going to the ‘More’ tab, then ‘Security’
    • Clicking on ‘NetCode security’ and follow the instructions
  • If you’re not registered for NetBank, you can register now
  • If your mobile number hasn’t been recorded on NetBank, call 13 2221 to register for NetCode SMS
  • We’ll cover any loss due to unauthorised transactions on your account, as long as you protect your cards, devices, client numbers, PINs, passwords and any other access methods, and immediately notify us of their loss, theft or misuse or any suspicious activity on your account
  • We guarantee that you won’t be liable for any unauthorised transactions, provided you comply with the Credit Card Conditions of Use (PDF 248KB)
  • MasterCard® Zero Liability gives you the peace of mind of free protection against fraud and other unauthorised transactions made with your card
  • Deal with merchants you trust such as those with a reputable trading name or brand, or merchants you've previously purchased from by phone or in store
  • Is the site secure? Look for an HTTPS within the address bar or a padlock icon. This indicates that the merchant's site offers an encrypted line of communication to protect your details during the transaction
  • Lock online international payments in the CommBank app or on NetBank when you’re not shopping on international websites. This prevents anyone from using your credit card to make purchases on international websites. When you find that thing you have to have, just unlock it again.# Find out more.
  • Call the merchant to verify authenticity and check delivery and return policies
  • Keep receipts in case you need to return or exchange an item. This should include the merchant’s internet address and order information
  • Keep your details up to date. To help us contact you in the event of suspicious activity on your credit card, ensure your details are kept up-to-date. Update your details in NetBank, at a branch, or by calling 13 2221 at any time
  • If you find an unauthorised transaction on your card, call us immediately on 13 2221

Things you should know

For return trips from Australia up to a set period per trip.

Travel insurance included on your credit card provides cover for you, your spouse and your accompanied children for return trips from Australia, up to a set period. You will need to activate your travel insurance for each trip in order to have a comprehensive level of cover. To activate your cover, register on Netbank, the CommBank app or call Cover-More on 1300 467 951 before you travel.

If you don’t activate you’ll receive Base medical which includes personal liability cover and unlimited overseas emergency medical assistance and hospital expenses only. Restrictions, exclusions (including for pre-existing medical conditions and persons aged 80 years or over), limits, sub-limits and excesses apply.
