1. Warn others of the scam

Report it to ScamWatch

Report it to the National Anti-Scam Centre (NASC) to help warn the community and prevent others from experiencing the same scam.

Report it via ReportCyber

Report the scam to the Australian Cyber Security Centre who works with law enforcement to fight cybercrime. Reports may be referred to the police for possible investigation.

2. Secure your identity

ID care

Contact IDCARE on 1800 595 160 and use code CBAIDC. IDCARE is a free government-funded service that provides support to victims of identity crime. A dedicated counsellor will work with you to tailor an individual response plan and coach you through what to do next. 

Protect your credit score

You can search “Check your credit score” on the CommBank website for steps on how to review recent credit applications and place a temporary ban on your Experian Credit Report.

3. Get support

If you’re having difficulty meeting your repayments on a CommBank loan or credit card, including as a result of being the victim of a scam, you can call us on 1300 720 814 between 8am and 9pm (AEST), Monday to Friday, or 9am to 2pm (AEST) on Saturday. Alternatively, you can send an email to financialassist@cba.com.au or lodge a request through NetBank.

Being a victim of a scam can be both emotionally and financially distressing. If you would like to talk to someone about your personal wellbeing, you can make an appointment for a confidential, psychological counselling service by calling 1300 360 793.

4. Watch out for follow up scams

  • As you have fallen victim to a scam, the scammers will often try to contact you again. Be alert to offers to recover your lost money, “track criminals” or charge a fee to return money. These will likely be a scam.
  • Stop all contact with the scammers and block them on any channels used to communicate with them.
  • Remember if you receive a call from someone claiming to be from CommBank, ask the person to use CallerCheck so you can verify their identity in the CommBank app.
