What are Fast Payments?

Fast Payments let you send money to New Payments Platform (NPP) eligible accounts in near real-time using a BSB and account number or PayID® (CommBiz only, not currently available for our APIs), with most payments processed in under a minute, 24/7.1 

Payments support high transaction limits and allow you to include a reference to help identify the payment.

  • Make payments up to $150,000,000 AUD per transaction.
  • Make your payment easier to recognise by including a unique payment reference, like an invoice number or purchase order and add a free text description up to 280 characters.

Fast Payments let eligible businesses send money to Australian bank accounts in near real-time using the New Payments Platform (NPP). Most payments are processed in under one minute and are available 24/7, including weekends and public holidays.

Most Fast Payments are completed in under one minute. Processing times can vary depending on the receiving bank and New Payments Platform (NPP) eligible accounts. Fast Payments are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Businesses can access Fast Payments:

  • Through CommBiz, our ready‑to‑use online banking platform
  • Via the Fast Payments API, which allows payments to be embedded into business systems such as ERPs and platforms

Fast Payments can be sent to eligible Australian accounts at participating financial institutions using a BSB and account number, or using PayID® (CommBiz only, not currently available for our APIs). If an account isn’t eligible, another payment method will be required.

Fast Payments are commonly used for time‑critical business payments, including:

  • Refunds
  • Claims
  • Supplier payments
  • Contractor payouts
  • Customer reimbursements
