Smart Access Account for Youth is best used with our Youthsaver account so your child can manage their own money, while working towards their savings goals.

A transaction account with a Keycard. You can set and adjust a spending limit for your child (weekly default is $20) and lock the Keycard so it can’t be used. With your guidance, your child can withdraw their money at an ATM or pay for things in-store.

Pay your child’s pocket money straight into their Smart Access Account for Youth. They can see their balance, transfer savings into their Youthsaver account and keep track of their money in the CommBank Youth app.

$0 monthly account fees. No fees when using CommBank or Bankwest ATMs. Every dollar your child earns can be put towards saving or spending. 

Two ways to open this account

If your child’s already got a Youthsaver account and you can see that account in NetBank, you can open a Smart Access Account for Youth online straight away by logging on to NetBank. 

Open a Youthsaver first and choose to add Smart Access Account for Youth. It’s a time saving way to open two accounts at once.

If the online options don’t apply to you, you can open a Smart Access Account for Youth or a Youthsaver account in branch.

We’ll need to check your ID (your driver’s licence, Medicare card, passport or birth certificate) and see your child’s birth certificate.

Who can apply?

Children under 14 will need a parent or legal guardian to open a Smart Access Account for Youth or a Youthsaver account on their behalf.

Over 14s can apply for an Everyday Account Smart Access without parental consent online or in branch

What do you need?

Your child needs to have:

  • An Australian residential address
  • Their birth certificate.

Parents or Legal Guardians who don't already bank with us, will need at least one form of ID e.g. Driver’s licence, Medicare card, passport or birth certificate. 

Keycard

Children over 9 will get a Keycard if their account is opened online.

Anyone opening an account in branch has the option of a Keycard.

Parents or legal guardians can set a spending limit on the account (weekly default set at $20) in the CommBank app.

We’ll cover any loss due to unauthorised transactions on your child’s account, as long as you and your child protect cards, devices, client numbers, PINs, passwords and any other access methods, and immediately notify us of their loss, theft or misuse or any suspicious activity on your child’s account.
