IMT pre-validation is a real-time security feature that checks the details you’ve entered before sending an international payment. It verifies key information such as the beneficiary’s name, account number and bank identifiers like Swift BIC or routing codes.
If something doesn’t match our available data, we’ll prompt you to review the details – helping avoid errors, prevent scams and speed up cross-border payments.
Even small errors can lead to a failed or delayed international payment.
IMT pre-validation provides instant feedback before you send an IMT to help:
As a CommBank customer, you’ll enjoy faster delivery and greater peace of mind.
Before you send an IMT in NetBank or the CommBank app, our real-time validation technology:
IMT pre-validation is designed specifically for international money transfers, while NameCheck and Confirmation of Payee apply to domestic payments. Together, these tools help reduce errors and protect customers from mistaken payments and scams across different payment types.
IMT pre-validation checks the beneficiary’s name, account number and other bank identifiers before an international payment is sent. It uses real-time validation technology to compare the details entered against trusted global payment data. Any discrepancies are then flagged before the payment is submitted.
It securely checks the name, account number, bank code and other bank identifiers (e.g. SWIFT, BIC) against trusted international payment data. If the details match, you can continue with your payment. If issues are found, you’ll be alerted and guided on what you can do next.
IMT pre-validation helps check details like account numbers and bank codes before you send money overseas, reducing the chance of delays or errors.
It applies to international money transfers made through NetBank and the CommBank app, but only for countries and banking networks where we can access validation data.
If validation isn’t available for the destination bank or country, your payment will continue using the usual IMT path.
No, IMT pre-validation is based on available payment data and cannot guarantee an exact match. It provides a likelihood that the details look right based on known patterns.
If you choose to continue with the payment after a warning, you accept the risk that the account details may be incorrect. The bank provides pre-validation as a guidance tool, not a guarantee. In such cases, you may be liable for any loss or recovery costs if the payment is misdirected.
If you receive an alert, double-check the account number and other bank identifiers like SWIFT BIC or routing codes and beneficiary name. Contact the intended recipient to confirm the details before proceeding. This helps reduce the risk of mistaken payments and scams.
Currently, IMT pre-validation is only available in NetBank and the CommBank app.
