If you're not currently a Commonwealth Bank customer you must provide satisfactory identification when you set up your account. For a full list of prescribed identification download our Certified Copies Identification form.

You should also make sure you have your Tax File Number (TFN) or TFN exemption with you. It is not an offence to withhold your TFN for a deposit account. However, if you do not quote it the bank is legally required to deduct tax from any interest earned on the deposit account, above a certain threshold.

You can also apply online now. You'll need at least 2 forms of identification:

One of either:

  • Passport
  • Australian Birth Certificate

Plus one of either:

  • Drivers licence
  • Medicare card
  • Marriage certificate
