A direct debit is a contract signed by a customer and a Biller (or Merchant) allowing the Biller to debit the customer's nominated bank account. Many organisations offer this payment service.

When establishing a direct debit this is an agreement between you and the direct debit user/ organisation.

A Direct Debit Request gives an organisation permission to electronically withdraw a nominated amount from your chosen account. The payment will be deducted from your chosen account on a date requested by you, at regular intervals.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have sufficient available funds in your chosen account when payments are due to be withdrawn.
