This year we’ve all overused the phrase ‘the new normal’, ‘adapting at pace’ and ‘pivoting’. But according to research of 130,000 Australian businesses, this year has seen greater organisation and governance from businesses, a heightened sense of alert toward cybersecurity, flexible working environments and social distancing becoming commonplace, and many businesses adapting earlier this year in anticipation of a recession.1
Businesses as they adapt in 2020
As many of our business community shared their stories of both success and uncertainty, three things became clear:
- We need to shine a light on the positives that come out of challenging circumstances,
- Businesses need to find new ways to connect with their customers,
- And that we cannot lose sight of the day-to-day values that make up businesses.
Here are some of the stories that shaped that change this year.
Tips for your business
More than ever before, businesses were looking for advice. From webinars and online search, to support call centres and specialist service teams, the Australian business landscape gave rise to online support networks, presented new marketing opportunities and a encouraged a simplification of business operations.
From brand to data, supporting small business was at the heart of change.
Leaders in Action
Research suggests that, “Companies that combine top-tier innovation with top-tier sustainability & trust outperform their industry peers,” and it is the leaders of these organisations that are tasked to navigate and deliver on these commitments.2
This year, stories from women business leaders sparked our curiosity, and invited new ways of thinking across the business community.
As we launch into 2021, these are the reasons that we’re committed to advancing the growth of women in business: to share business moments to learn from and to inspire innovation in women-led organisations.
