About Engineering

We’re part of Technology and responsible for the world-leading applications across every single aspect of CommBank, from innovative product platforms for our customers, to essential tools within our business.

We’re the engine room behind Australia’s leading online bank, a title we’ve held for  10 years running. We’ve been designing the future of banking for more than two decades and we’re not stopping anytime soon.

Whatever you’re working on, you’ll be empowered to spark change, transform an industry and deliver what really matters. We’re passionate about what we can do with a truly diverse team. Find out more about Engineering at CommBank.

Our Programs

  • Graduate Program

Our Technology Graduate Program focusses on three technical specialities:

In this Program you’ll have the opportunity to rotate between areas of Technology or stay focussed in your area of specialty.

You’ll contribute to our technology innovations within industry-leading teams while you’re supported and empowered to navigate and invigorate your career.

Our flexible 18-month Program gives you the option to rotate across either complementing or widely varying teams. So whether you want to fast track into a specialist role or discipline, broaden your expertise or simply ‘try something on for size’, you'll have the opportunity to tailor the career you want while we support you in navigating our vast tech landscape.

Whether you want to work on apps, websites, in back end or in the cloud, you’ll find it all here. Best of all, you don’t have to have it all figured out before joining us.

You need to apply for the one Program, with an indication of which stream you’d like to start in. Once you start, we’ll work with you to tailor the Program to you.

  • Where could the Program take you?

Whether you’re designing the apps people hold in their hands or the systems they’re delivered through, you’re determining how more than 17 million customers access their money. Your work matters.

The possibilities for our tech cohort are ever expanding. For our Engineers, our scale means unparalleled opportunity to create change and positively impact customers. We gather 150 billion data points from over 600 million interactions across digital, the retail network and contact centres.

Some of the roles our Grads have grown and transitioned into or have been performing from day one:

    • Data Engineer (ML / AI)
    • Software Engineer (Web / Mobile / Full stack)
    • Site Reliability Engineer
    • Security Engineer

Roles available for Engineers are based in Australia, typically Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide or Perth.

  • Summer Intern Program

During our 10-week Summer Intern Program you’ll receive training and networking opportunities, be supported by a buddy and get the chance to hone your skills in engineering (software, systems, data or machine learning), native mobile, architecture, infrastructure, cloud or cyber.

Given the breadth and diversity of our tech makeup, we support you to identify a team that suits your existing capability and study interests, while providing meaningful challenges and exposure across our tech platforms.

What we look for

  • Our diverse teams look for many different qualities in Graduates. You’re dedicated to creating a better experience for our customers, and also passionate about technology, the simplification of processes and organisational change.

You’re an innate problem-solver and curious about the world around you. We believe in using the right tools for the job, so an open mind to learning new tech stacks, languages and frameworks will go a long way.

  • Degrees

We’re open to degrees across disciplines. Most of our Engineering Graduates have completed a degree in one or a blend of the following:

    • Computer Science
    • Software Engineering
    • Computer Engineering
    • IT
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Information Systems

If you have an underlying passion for Engineering and appetite to work in a highly complex and fast-changing business, we have many career pathways that aren’t dependent on your discipline degree.

Benefits

  • As well as the opportunity to work with industry-leading teams on cutting-edge technologies on our best-in-class platforms, the benefits of our Programs include:
