Australian of the Year
Each year, the Australian of the Year Awards celebrate outstanding Australians and their commitment to the country and their local communities. We are proud to acknowledge the people who help make Australia an amazing place to call home.
The Commonwealth Bank has been the major sponsor of the Australian of the Year Awards for over 30 years. We’re proud to support a program that recognises the difference these extraordinary individuals make in the community.
Social Impact Scholarship
As part of our commitment to individuals working in the not-for-profit sector, we provide a scholarship, in partnership with the Centre for Social Impact (CSI) to a candidate working in a not-for-profit organisation who is connected to the Commonwealth Bank Group.
The scholarship is available to students who have enrolled in, but not yet started, the Graduate Certificate in Social Impact at one of CSI’s partner business schools.
The $10,000 scholarship is used to help pay the program’s tuition fees.
We are proud to support not only the disaster relief efforts of the Australian Red Cross by opening up our call centres and branches to help raise money for those in need during Red Cross appeals. Our support also includes staff volunteering to support the TeleCross program, and donating blood to the Red Cross Blood Service.
In recognition of our support, we are a National Humanity Partner of Red Cross - the most significant level of corporate partnership with Red Cross in Australia.
We have been a part of local communities since 1911. So if disaster strikes, we know we have a role in helping communities get back on their feet.
Through working with the Australian Red Cross, state and federal Governments and local communities, we are always ready to lend a hand – making sure that the Australian spirit stays strong and that we can get help quickly to where it’s needed most.
Most recently, our support following disasters has ranged from accepting donations in branches, special assistance packages for customers and providing back-office support to the Australian Red Cross. Being prepared for an emergency is important, and we have arrangements in place ready to support our customers and the community if the need arises.
Great Barrier Reef Foundation
Larger than Italy and home to 10% of the world's fish species, the Great Barrier Reef is a true treasure of the natural world.
Sadly, the reef is already being damaged by pollution, overfishing and the effects of climate change. Of these threats, climate change looms as the most dangerous.
We support the Great Barrier Reef Foundation’s ZooX Fund, which finances vital research into understanding how the reef will respond to the effects of climate change and how we can work to protect it.
