Frequently asked questions

  • A CDIA is a cash management account that is linked to your SMSF CommSec trading account.
  • It acts as an investment wallet, allowing you to pay for or receive money from your trades. You can also receive SMSF contributions, pay expenses and facilitate drawdowns with your CDIA.
  • By opening an SMSF CommSec Australian Shares account, you’ll also open an SMSF CDIA, which provides you with discounted online brokerage and real-time fund transfers.

To transfer your shares into CommSec account:

  1. Log into your CommSec app (make sure you have the latest version)
  2. On the bottom of the screen, tap More, then select Transfer Shares

Once you begin the transfer, you'll be asked a series of questions about your shares.

You can transfer shares held with:

  • Another broker (e.g., Stake, nabtrade)
  • A share registry (e.g., Computershare, MUFG Corporate Markets)
  • Another CommSec account

Important: For the transfer to be successful, the name and address registered on your holdings must match your CommSec account. If registration details differ by even one character, you'll need to change these details before completing the form. The transfer process normally takes 2-3 business days to complete.

You can use either the CommBank or CommSec app to trade and manage your SMSF CommSec Australian Shares account.
