What is a temporary lock on a credit card?

Last updated 24 October 2014

You can apply a temporary lock to your credit card if you have misplaced it to protect it against unauthorised use while you look for it. When you find your card, the lock can simply be removed.

When a temporary lock has been applied, all new transactions on the credit account will be declined excluding:

  • transactions flagged as ‘recurring’ e.g. direct debits such as gym membership
  • some contactless transactions, and transactions that are approved on our behalf by MasterCard or Visa
  • assisted cash withdrawals via our branches; and
  • transfers or bill payments on your card via CommBank branches, phone banking, online banking and mobile banking.

A temporary lock can be applied in Netbank or the CommBank app or by contacting us.

Apply a temporary lock in NetBank now.

To locate the feature in the CommBank app, see How do I put a temporary lock on my credit card?
