What is Confirmation of Payee?

Confirmation of Payee provides an added check for first-time payments made in NetBank or the CommBank app.

Confirmation of Payee gives you more confidence that your money is going to the right place, helping you avoid scams.

  • It provides extra information when sending money via a BSB and account number.
  • Confirmation of Payee can also help reduce errors and mistaken payments by verifying the recipient’s account details.

For CommBank customers, Confirmation of Payee and NameCheck  work together to give you more information about the person or business you are sending money to, and helps you confirm who you’re paying.

How does it work?

Before you make a first-time payment, Confirmation of Payee and NameCheck confirms if the account is open and compares the account name, BSB and account number you’ve entered against the information registered at the receiving bank.

Confirmation of Payee will then show your intended recipient name and together with NameCheck it will show you one of five possible match results. This gives you a chance to make an informed decision about what action you take.

Match

The entered recipient account name is a match of the payee's account name.

Close Match

The entered recipient account name closely matches but is not an exact match of the payee's account name.

No Match

The entered recipient account name doesn't match the payee's account name.

Error

This appears if there are issues with the Confirmation of Payee service or there is an error with another bank.

Account Closed

The entered recipient account is no longer open.
