Institutional Banking & Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing CommBank’s relationships with major corporate, government clients and institutional investors, providing them with bespoke financing solutions to meet their complex needs. From financing corporate growth, to specialised infrastructure projects such as renewable energy farms, airports and bridges, it’s our job to help our clients build Australia’s future economy.
IB&M performs an important internal role for the Group by providing global markets, trade finance, corporate and institutional lending to other CommBank business units that help them capture opportunities with business and retail customers.
IB&M is comprised of our Global Client Solutions and Global Markets business, who are both supported by our COO (Chief Operating Office), QDAT (Quants, Data, Analytics & Tech) and NFR&C (Non-Financial Risk & Conduct) teams.
Global Client Solutions (GCS) within IB&M leads banking relationship management and provides transaction banking, risk management and capital solutions to their clients.

GCS also has a dedicated Sustainable Finance ESG team and Transactional Banking Solutions that partner with each of our teams, who are all supported by the GCS Chief Operating Office (COO).
Global Markets (GM) is responsible for all the Bank’s sales and trading activities within global financial markets. They work hand in hand with Global Client Solutions (GCS) across all ecosystems to help our clients navigate financial risks, manage portfolios and optimise their performance.
Global Markets offerings include all Foreign Exchange, Commodities, Fixed Income and Interest Rate products; all supported by the Chief Operating Office (COO).
Teams are organised along the functions of sales, trading and enabling activities and operate in all key offshore locations including Europe, Asia and the US.

Our Quants, Data, Analytics and Tech (QDAT) function support our Client Solutions and Global Markets business through combining key technical capabilities to drive the IB&M strategy. QDAT includes a range of teams including CommBank IQ (client and data analytics); quantitative solutions and quantitative infrastructure; global Economics and Markets Research; IB&M Data Office; Project Management Office; and Systematic Markets.
The IB&M Non-Financial Risk &Conduct (NFR&C) team are a central, Line 1 team of risk professionals who help IB&M to achieve better risk and customer outcomes. The team supports the global IB&M business to identify and manage non-financial risks, comply with regulatory obligations, and embed a customer centric and market integrity approach to activities.
This structured 12-month Program begins with a month long 'Graduate Academy', a training and development program designed to provide Graduates with a deep dive into IB&M.
Following this, Graduates will experience three rotations. All Graduates will have the opportunity to rotate through Global Markets and Global Client Solutions, as well as a third rotation in a support function such as IB&M Strategy, QDAT, Non-Financial Risk or our Chief Operating Office.
We’re serious about maximising your potential and will provide you with continuous learning and skills development, along with exposure to transactions and business development activities across product and industry teams. On a day-to-day basis, you can expect to gain hands-on experience through financial analysis, financial modelling, preparation of pitch books, undertaking research projects, dealing directly with internal and external clients, and attending client and management meetings.
This 10-week Program gives you exposure across our diverse business. You’ll benefit from a structured induction, training, networking opportunities, and have the chance to contribute meaningfully to our business. Your voice will be heard from day one, and at the conclusion of your Internship, you’ll have the opportunity to present a project back to our senior leaders.
