Commonwealth Bank and NetBank websites “Best in Class”

Sydney, 28 October 2009:  Commonwealth Bank’s websites have been recognised as one of the ‘world’s most well executed’ winning four awards in the 2009 Interactive Media Awards (IMA) – with NetBank and  receiving the Best in Class for Financial Services and Best in Class for Banking categories.

Tim Whiteley, Commonwealth Bank’s Executive General Manager Enterprise Service Development said he was delighted to see NetBank continue to be recognised by national accolades and lead the way in online banking excellence.

“We have been working hard over the past year to deliver customers significant enhancements which will empower them to manage their money online whilst giving greater flexibility, transparency, functionality and security,” Mr Whiteley said.

Mark Buckman, Commonwealth Bank’s Chief Marketing Officer added that this was a significant achievement for the Group, recognising its innovative approach and ongoing investment in building a great online experience for its customers.

“Our website, demonstrates the essence of the Commonwealth Bank Brand: put the customer first, be approachable and provide information and functionality that the customer understands and can act on. So, it is very rewarding that it has been acknowledged on an international stage,” Mr Buckman said.

“We recognise that the way people want to consume content online is always changing and therefore deliver content in multiple formats from plain language copy to RSS live feeds, offering choice for the consumer,” he said.

According to Hitwise, the Commonwealth Bank has the largest market share of website visits, ranking NetBank number one, closely followed by ranking fourth in Australia in the Banks and Financial Institutions category.

The IMA recognise the highest standards of excellence in website design and development internationally. The Best in Class Award is the highest honour bestowed by the Interactive Media Council.

Commonwealth Bank has received this accolade as a result of its websites excelling in all areas of the IMA’s judging criteria including design, content, feature functionality, usability and standards compliance.
