Bank clarifies position of final date for purchase of shares to be entitled to Buy-back franking credits

13 February 2004

The Bank would like to clarify the position in relation to final date on which shares could have been purchased to receive the franking credit entitlement under the 45 day rule for shareholders who participate in the recently announced share buy-back.

The following statement was reported in the Bank’s Media Release issued on 11 February 2004:

"From discussions with the ATO, the Bank understands that if you purchase the Bank’s shares on or after 12 February 2004 and before the buy-back closes, you may not receive the franking credits and rebates that you would otherwise receive in relation to the dividend component of the buy-back price (final ATO Class Ruling pending)."
