My SMSF already has a CommBank product, but not a CDIA

Looking to access more SMSF products?

Some CommBank SMSF products require an eligible linked account. For example, SMSF Saver requires an eligible Commonwealth Direct Investment Account (CDIA) or Commonwealth Private Bank Account (PBA) held in the name of your SMSF.

If your SMSF doesn't have an eligible linked account, you can apply for a CDIA online or visit a CommBank branch for in-person support.

Option 1: Open a CDIA online

Apply online for a CDIA, a cash management account available for SMSFs. As part of the online application, a linked CommSec trading account will also be opened.

Once the CDIA is open, explore and apply for other eligible SMSF products including SMSF Saver, a high-interest savings account for SMSFs.

Applications for a CDIA and linked CommSec trading account are completed through CommSec.

Option 2: Open a CDIA at a branch

Prefer in-person support? Visit a CommBank branch to apply for a CDIA.

I bank with CommBank, but my SMSF doesn't

You can get started online or visit a CommBank branch for in-person support.

Option 1: Get started online

If the SMSF is new to CommBank, one way to get started is to apply online for a Commonwealth Direct Investment Account (CDIA) and linked CommSec trading account. A CDIA is a cash management account available for SMSFs. The SMSF will also be onboarded with CommBank as part of the application process.

Once the CDIA is open, it can be used as an eligible linked account for certain CommBank SMSF products, including SMSF Saver, a high-interest savings account for SMSFs.

Applications for a CDIA and linked CommSec trading account are completed through CommSec. Once set up, SMSF banking and investments can be viewed in the CommBank app through the SMSF portfolio feature.

Option 2: Get started at a CommBank branch

Before visiting a branch, check that the SMSF is registered with the ATO and shows a 'Complying' or 'Registered' status on Super Fund Lookup.

Information about the SMSF and its trustees or directors will also need to be provided.

I'm completely new to CommBank

There are two ways for an established SMSF to get started with CommBank: online via the CommBank app or at a CommBank branch.

Option 1: Get started via the CommBank app

New to CommBank? Getting started online begins with signing up to the CommBank app. Once signed up, an online application can be made for a Commonwealth Direct Investment Account (CDIA),  together with a linked CommSec trading account.

The SMSF will also be onboarded with CommBank as part of the application process.

  1. Download the CommBank app
  2. Tap sign up > New to CommBank > SMSF, Business & more
  3. Continue to follow the prompts to open an SMSF CDIA account

Option 2: Get started at a CommBank branch
