Get started

  • Get your banking sorted with these simple steps:

    1. Find out what’s the difference between a transaction and savings account
    2. Choose the right account for you
    3. Download the CommBank app  to get quick and easy access to your money from your device 24/7
    4. Use Money Plan in the CommBank app to help you keep track of your spending and saving. You can also set savings goals, so you can get the things you’re after sooner.

Transaction accounts

Transaction accounts (also called ‘everyday’ accounts) give you easy access to your money for those everyday things you need – like food, transport, and going out. They’re also usually where your wages get paid into.

Everyday Account Smart Access

Everyday Account Smart Access is our transaction/everyday account for your day-to-day banking.

With our Everyday Account Smart Access, you’ll get:

  • The ability to bank anywhere, anytime with the CommBank app and NetBank – Australia’s #1 online bank
  • $0 monthly account fees while you’re under 30
  • The option to get a Debit Mastercard® to pay for things with your own money – online, over the phone, in-store and overseas

If you’re 14 or over and have an Australian residential address, you can open an Everyday Account Smart Access for yourself online.

If you’re under 14, your parent/legal guardian can check out our Kids page for more details.

Savings accounts

Savings accounts help you put money aside - and usually offer better interest rates than transaction accounts - so you can save up for the things you want.

You have a couple of options if you want to open a savings account with us:

NetBank Saver

With a NetBank Saver, you'll get:

  • A flexible way to save and earn interest
  • An account with no minimum deposit
  • An online savings account linked to your Everyday Account Smart Access, so you can easily move money from your everyday account to your savings account
  • To create savings goals in the CommBank app, so you can track your progress

If you’re 14 or over, you can open a NetBank Saver account with us online.

If you don’t already have an Everyday Account Smart Access or aren’t registered for NetBank, we’ll automatically get these sorted for you if you’re eligible to open a NetBank Saver online.

If you’re under 14, you won’t be able to open a NetBank Saver account, but your parent/legal guardian can check out our Kids page for other options.
