Application process

Apply online

You can apply for one of our programs by submitting an online application form – it’s quick and easy. And shouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes!

Please select the area that feels most like you - some areas have multiple program streams, while others have one focused stream. You’ll be able to review your chosen stream before submitting your application.

If you’d like to explore what each area offers, you can learn more above, on our Graduate and Intern Programs page.

So it’s important that you look at what’s on offer before applying. Make sure you also have your updated resume and most recent transcript handy.

Online Assessment

If your initial application is successful, you'll be invited to complete our online assessment. Once completed, you'll receive insights around your capabilities. It’s an opportunity for you to reflect on your strengths and key skills.

Digital Interview

The digital interview is your chance to tell us what can’t be put into words on your resume.

It’s your opportunity to express your interest in CommBank and the stream you’ve applied for. You’ll be asked a series of short pre-recorded questions and will be required to respond to the frontward facing camera on your computer or mobile. You'll receive an email invite which will have instructions and a deadline of 48 hours - be sure to monitor your emails! You can find some top tips here.

Assessment Centre

Finally, if you’re successful at the digital interview stage you’ll be invited to a virtual or face-to-face assessment centre. This is a great opportunity to network and meet people from the business, ask questions and see if we’re the right fit for you.

The Global Markets Summer Analyst assessment centre stage differs slightly, with shortlisted applicants invited to virtual interviews with specific teams within Global Markets (for some teams, you may also be asked to complete an additional coding assessment prior to your interview). Applicants who are successful in the first round of interviews will be invited to a second round of interviews.

FAQs

About the Programs

The Graduate Program starts in mid-February. The length of each program varies depending on which business area you're interested in, but the majority of our programs run for 18 months. As a graduate, you'll join the program as a permanent employee.

The summer intern program and GMSA program runs for 10 weeks from late November to early February. This includes a break over the Christmas and New Year period.

We look for well-rounded candidates who have successfully balanced university, work experience and extra-curricular activities. Other skills essential to working successfully with us include being able to work in a team and the desire to learn and drive your own career. Most importantly, we look for your motivation to work with us.

Our Graduate Program generally takes around 300+ Graduates each year and our Summer Intern Program takes around 150+ Interns each year.

The majority of our roles are based in Sydney. We do have a number of roles available in other cities and regional areas. Specific locations of our roles will be available at time of application, and you’ll be asked about your location preference, and locations you'd be open to relocating to.

Our Programs are only available in Australia.

Global Markets graduate roles do not form part of our group-wide Graduate Program. Global Markets Summer Analysts who successfully complete the program may receive an offer for a specific team within Global Markets.

Application & recruitment process

Unfortunately temporary visa holders are not eligible. Applicants must have Australian or New Zealand Citizenship or Australian permanent residency at the time the application is submitted.

All successful candidates must have completed their studies and be available to commence full time work in mid-February. Unfortunately we're unable to accommodate late applicants and would suggest you apply for the following year's Graduate Program.

You’re only able to select one Career Pathway preference on your online application. To help you make this decision, we recommend you read about our different pathways in detail before applying. If we read your application and think you’re a perfect fit for another area, we’ll give you a call to have a chat.

Please check the Campus events section to find out when we’ll be visiting your university and running events – either face-to-face or virtually.

Find out more about our application process, including tips for a successful application.

We'll keep in touch after each stage of the recruitment process to advise if your application is progressing.

If you don’t receive a confirmation email of your application within 24 – 48 hours of your application being submitted, check your junk folders and set us up as a known email address ([email protected]) so you don't miss out on important correspondence throughout the recruitment process.

If the Career Pathway you’re interested in is not appearing on the application page, it means the role has been filled by successful Graduates or Summer Interns and is now closed.

We generally complete all hiring a year in advance. Should any further opportunities become available, these will be advertised on our website. We’d encourage you to join our Talent Community in the meantime so we can keep you up-to-date with all things happening at CommBank, including any vacant roles.

You may see us advertise opportunities as ‘expression of interest only’. This means that we do not have a current role, however if we have one become available we'll consider applicants who applied to the expression of interest. If and when a role becomes available, we’ll be in touch to re-confirm your interest and availability and discuss next steps.

No. All applications must be submitted online.

All applicants need to apply online. Internal candidates who are already working for CommBank should apply through the Career Hub on Sidekick. External candidates should apply through our application portal. When applications are open, the portal can be accessed via this page. All applicants will go through the same recruitment process.

Assessment Centres

It pays to be prepared! Do your homework before the Assessment Centre and find out everything you can about the Program and us. Also, it’s worth reflecting on how your skills and experience match what we’re looking for. You’ll have the opportunity to meet and network with CommBank leaders within the Career Pathway you've applied to, so we recommend you’re prepared to discuss your interest and understanding in this area.

Yes. Where you're required to travel to meet with us, we'll assist in subsidising interstate travel to Assessment Centres. Available amounts will be discussed with each individual candidate.

We offer virtual assessment processes where we’re not able to bring our team and our candidates together face-to-face. You'll be advised during the application process on whether you can expect to come through either the virtual or face-to-face Assessment Centre.

Support

Yes. We'll provide some assistance to Graduates needing to relocate for the Graduate Program. Available amounts will be discussed with individual candidates.

Our starting salary is competitive with the graduate market. We'll discuss details of the remuneration and bonus structure throughout the recruitment process. We also offer a huge range of rewards and benefits outside of your salary.

Yes. We support employees who want to enhance their professional development through tertiary study. This is something you'll need to discuss with your manager, as you need to consider the benefit to the business and your ability to manage your work/life/study balance.

While we do have offices around the globe, the majority of our employees are based in Australia. However, in some cases our Graduates will have the opportunity to work overseas.

Please call HR Direct on 1800 989 696 and a member of our team can help you navigate the application process.

Please get in touch via email at [email protected] and we’ll respond as soon as possible.
