Team Commonwealth Bank pedals for multiple sclerosis

1 November 2006

The Commonwealth Bank team participating in this year’s Sydney to Wollongong bike ride is on target to raise almost $30,000 for MS… making them the largest corporate fund raiser in the history of the ride.

The team of 100 volunteers from various parts of the Bank set itself a goal of $5,000 but has been revising it upwards weekly. A short time ago the riders had just passed $27,000 in funds raised.

According to the team leader Greg Johnson the fund raising effort is typical of the community spirit which the Bank fosters.

“I’m very proud of the effort made by our riders,” Mr Johnson said.

“I set them what I thought was an ambitious target and we are on track to exceed it by about 500%.

“The Bank has been involved with this ride for many years – either as a Bank sponsored team or as individuals banding together to support the cause.  I think this year we have thrown down the gauntlet to the staff at every other financial services organisation to try to match us.

“If they do the big winner will be research into MS.

“The Commonwealth Bank encourages us to volunteer our time for community projects and charities such as MS.

“Volunteering brings people together in a unique and fun way and this weekend’s race will be no exception, though I’m sure we will all need a good massage by the end of it.”
