Who can apply?
You can apply if you:
- Are aged 14 years and over (for under 14s, see our Smart Access Account for Youth)
- Have an Australian residential address. If you're applying from overseas, see our Moving to Australia section
- Are opening the account in your personal names (no Company, Trading or Trust accounts - see business accounts). To open a trust account, please apply at any branch
- Have a Tax File Number (TFN) or TFN Exemption. You don't have to provide your TFN, but if you don't CommBank is legally required to deduct tax from any interest earned on the account above a certain threshold

Things you should know
1 Cardless cash is available from any CommBank ATM. Withdrawals are limited to a total of $500 per day. CommBank app, NetBank, NetCode and account access required. Full conditions on app.

3 Monthly account fee waived for accounts with at least $2,000 deposited each calendar month (excludes Bank initiated transactions). A monthly account fee waiver will also apply if you’re under 25 years of age, or you’re a full-time or part-time tertiary student at an Australian educational institution or undertaking an Australian Apprenticeship on Student Options. You may also be eligible for a different monthly account fee exemption if you have an aged, disability or war veterans’ pension deposited in your account, have a balance of $50,000 or more in eligible contributing accounts, are reliant on over the counter services because of a disability or have an eligible home loan. 5 This includes purchases made in Australia (for example online), where the merchant is located overseas or the financial institution or entity processing the transaction is located overseas.
6 The recipient needs to have an Australian bank account (with BSB and account number) and have an active mobile phone number.
7 We predict your bills based on patterns in your transactions, how much you pay and when. We may not predict all of your bills. Our prediction date and amounts may be different from your actual bill. Check your bills and due dates to avoid late fees or paying an incorrect amount. 8 We'll show you rewards if you have an eligible card, are over 18 and have an Australian home address and are enrolled in CommBank Rewards. You can claim cashback rewards if you activate the reward and spend the required amount using tap or selecting credit using all CommBank cards except Travel Money, Corporate Credit, Business Debit and pre-paid Mastercards. Cashback will be credited to your account within 14 business days. Full terms and conditions are available on the CommBank app.
9 The account can be overdrawn to cover any accidental or unplanned shortfall in funds to meet a payment. Customers incur a cost when their account becomes overdrawn. This feature can be deactivated on request by the customer, and is only available for customers over 18. Customers can also set up Overdrawn Account alerts via NetBank or the CommBank App. These alerts are sent as CommBank App push notifications or SMS.
10 The overdraw fee is usually charged the next business day.
11 Attempts will generally be on consecutive business days. For NetBank scheduled payments, we will aim to make the first attempt on the day your scheduled payment is due, and another 4 attempts on subsequent business days.

The CommBank app is free to download however your mobile network provider charges you for accessing data on your phone.
