Our Business Transaction Account can help you run your business smoother if you:

How to apply online

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • All business types whether you are a sole trader or a corporation

With our new online application, you can open an account in 10 minutes or less if you are one of the following:

  • New and existing customers must be either a sole trader or a director of a private company (Pty Ltd). 

If you are not a sole trader, or a director of a private company (Pty Ltd), we’ll sort it out for you in branch or you can give us a call on 13 1998 at any time.

In 3 easy steps, you can open a Business Transaction Account online in 10 minutes or less and start using it right away. If you’re a new customer, we’ll also set you up in NetBank.

Step 1: Answer a few questions about you and your business

Step 2: Verify your personal ID online (if you are new to banking with us)

Step 3: Verify your business details online.

Make sure you have the following handy:

  • Business details including ABN/ACN registered office address
  • At least one form of ID – Medicare card, driver’s licence, passport or birth certificate (if you’re a new CommBank customer)
  • Full name and email address of the other director (if applicable) and/or any shareholders who owns 25% of the company's shares directly or through other shareholdings.      

All accounts will be set up to allow any one of the directors to be the account signatory. You can always change it later after the account's been set up.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • If you don’t currently bank with us, opening an account will take less than 10 minutes. We’ll ask you a few questions about you and your business and verify your ID and business details online. If successful, we’ll also set you up for NetBank.
  • If you are an existing CommBank customer, it’s even quicker and if we can verify your business details, it will take around 7 minutes to complete the application.

Once we've identified you and checked your business details with ASIC successfully, you’ll see your account immediately in NetBank.

If you have another director and/or any shareholders who own 25% or more of your company’s shares directly, or through other shareholdings, we’ll need to verify them as well. Your account will be created in NetBank, and you'll be able to put money into it but you won't be able to withdraw or transfer out of it until we've confirmed the identity of the other directors and/or shareholders of your company.

It’s a legal requirement that we need to verify your business details including the details of any directors and/or shareholders who own 25% or more of your company to fully activate your account.

Yes. Cheque books are available at your nearest branch – remember to take ID.
