Tap & Pay uses NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, so you can make fast and secure contactless payments with your phone.

If you don’t have a Samsung GALAXY S4 smartphone, you will need to purchase a PayTag for $2.99 via the CommBank app.

Samsung GALAXY S4 users

Exclusive to Samsung GALAXY S4 smartphones**, you can now use your phone to Tap & Pay using the phone's embedded NFC technology that enables mobile payments at any MasterCard® PayPassTM terminal worldwide.

Once you have downloaded the new CommBank app, click on the Tap & Pay icon from your home screen and follow the simple set up instructions.

An annual fee of $2.99 applies after the first 12 months.

There are a number of security measures to ensure paying with Tap & Pay is safe and secure.

  • Backed by our 100% Security Guarantee - if you lose or have your Tap & Pay enabled phone stolen, you’ll be protected against fraudulent account activity in the same way as your contactless debit and credit cards (where losses will be 100% covered)^
  • Tap & Pay can easily be turned off and on using the CommBank app
  • If you use a PayTag, you can conceal it under your phone cover for extra security (as long as the cover isn’t metal, your PayTag will be just as effective.)

A CommBank PayTag can only be purchased from within the CommBank app. Select Tap & Pay on the home screen and follow the on-screen instructions.

The best place to stick the CommBank PayTag is on the back of the phone towards the bottom.

This can differ between terminals. Generally the best place to tap your CommBank PayTag is over one of the corners of the reader. If this doesn’t work, try in the middle.
