What security do CBA ATMs have?
Our new CBA ATMs have been specially designed for enhanced protection against fraud and skimming.

What is EMV?
EMV stands for Europay, MasterCard and VISA and is a global security standard for cards with chips. The security operates at point of sale (POS) terminals and ATMs, for authenticating credit and debit card transactions.

CBA is the first Australian bank to have EMV certified ATMs.

Cash and cheque in ATM

What has changed?
Selected branches have been identified to receive a cash and cheque in ATM which will replace the existing Envelope Deposit ATMs at that branch. This ATM will provide customers the ability to deposit cash and/or cheques in real time, 24x7.

Will all branches be getting cash and cheque in ATMs?
Cash and cheque in ATMs will be installed across a range of metropolitan, regional and remote locations. There will be about 150 nationwide by the mid 2013.

When will the cash or cheques be credited to the account?
Cash will be immediately credited to the account balance. The value of the cheques will be updated immediately in the account balance and subject to the usual 3 day clearance before funds it becomes available.

Can you deposit cash and cheques in the same transaction?
Yes. There will be an option to deposit cash and cheques during the same transaction.

Can you deposit coins?
No. The cash and cheque in ATM will not accept coins.

Can you deposit foreign cheques or foreign currency?
No. If foreign cheques or foreign currency is deposited into the ATM it will be rejected and returned to the customer.

Can you withdraw cash from a Cash and cheque in ATM?
Yes, you can withdraw cash using a key card, debit card, credit card or travel money card.

Can you deposit to any account?
No. The ATM will only accept cash and cheque deposits to a CBA account.

Do you still need an envelope to deposit cash or cheques at a cash and cheque in ATM?
No. You do not require an envelope to deposit cash or cheques. However when using an envelope deposit machine, an envelope is still required.

Is there a limit of how much cash you can deposit at any one time?
Yes. The maximum number of notes you can deposit is 200. These notes can be made up of $5, $10, $20, $50, $100.

Is there a limit of how many cheques you can deposit into a cash and cheque in ATM at any one time?
Yes. The maximum number of cheques you can deposit is 50.

Will will happen if you want to deposit more than 200 notes and 50 cheques into a cash and cheque in ATM?
You will need to make a second deposit for any amounts over 200 notes and 50 cheques.

Am I able to cancel the transaction after I have initiated it?
Yes. You will be required to confirm the deposit amount prior to finalising the transaction. If you do not agree with the amount, you have the option of cancelling the transaction.

What happens if the Cash and cheque in ATM does not read my cheque (s) properly?
If the cash and cheque in ATM does not recognise the amount on the cheque, you have the ability to edit the cheque amount before confirming the transaction.

Can I print a receipt from a Cash and cheque in ATM?
Yes. The receipt will specify the amount of cash and/or cheques you have deposited. The receipt will also show the image of the first 3 cheques that have been deposited.

Why does the receipt limit the image to only 3 cheques?
Our research suggests most customers deposit on average between 1 to 3 cheques using the current deposit functionality of an ATM. We have therefore limited the image to the first 3 cheques for the deposit.

Images of all cheque deposits will be available on NetBank.

What should I do if the ATM will not accept my cash or cheques?
The ATM cannot accept cash or cheques it cannot recognise. A branch staff can assist during opening hours.

Will there be someone who can assist me?
Yes, if you would like assistance in making a deposit at a new ATM a branch staff member will be able to assist you through the steps required. 

Enhanced Services (Favourite withdrawal)

What is Favourite withdrawal?
Favourite withdrawal is the ability to set a frequently used withdrawal amount.

Will Favourite withdrawal be available on all CBA ATMs?
Favourite withdrawal will be available on selected cash and cheque in ATMs later in the year and all CBA ATMs by mid-2013.

Will Favourite withdrawal be available to non CBA customers?
Yes. Non CBA customers can set up Favourite withdrawal on CBA ATMs.

Can you set up more than one Favourite withdrawal?
No. You can only set up one Favourite withdrawal, however you can amend the withdrawal instructions by selecting "More ATM options".

Enhanced Services (ATM locator)     

What is the ATM locator?
When an ATM is out of service, the screen will display the four nearest ATMs on a local map. The screen will also display the four nearest ATMs address and distance.

Will ATM locator include Bankwest ATMs?
Yes. ATM Locator will display Bankwest ATMs.

Enhanced Services (Foreign languages)

What is the foreign languages feature?
Customers will be able to select their preferred language when using a CBA ATM. All instructions concerning the ATM transactions will then be shown in the customer's desired language.

What languages will be available?
The following languages will be available:

  • Modern standard Arabic
  • Simplified Chinese (including characters)
  • Vietnamese
  • Filipino (Tagalog)
  • Korean
  • Greek

How can you set up a Foreign language?
You have 2 options to set up Foreign language:

  • You can select your desired language on the "Please Insert Card Screen" or "Enter Pin Screen" (the language will be indicated by the flag of the country). If you select this option, all instructions concerning this transaction will be displayed in the customers desired language.
  • After you enter your pin number, you can select "More ATM options" and then "Language" to select the desired language. Please note, if this option if selected, the new language settings will not be effective until the next transaction.

Can a customer change their existing language? 
Yes. After you enter your pin number, you can select "More ATM options" and then "Language" to select the desired language. Please note, if this option is selected, the new language settings will not be effective until the next transaction.

Will Audio be available in a Foreign language?
No. Audio will only be available in English.

Will the ATM receipt be in a Foreign language? 
No. ATM receipts will only be available in English.

Will Foreign languages be available to non CBA customers?
Yes. Non CBA customers can set up Foreign languages on CBA ATMs.

Will Foreign languages be available on all CBA ATMs?
Foreign languages will be available only on cash and cheque in ATMs later in the year and all CBA ATMs by mid 2013.
