From 1 August 2014, PIN will replace signatures on credit and debit card purchase made in person.

Why are signatures being phased out?

To increase the security of the credit and debit card system, all credit and debit cards issued in Australia will require a PIN to make purchases in person. Signatures will no longer be accepted. Of course, you can still use contactless payments for transactions under $100.
