EFTPOS stands for Electronic Funds Transfer at Point of Sale. It's an electronic payment system that allows your business to take funds from customers using their debit or credit card, or tap and pay device.
EFTPOS terminals enable the transfer of electronic payments, typically by card or digital wallet, from a customer's bank account to the merchant's
Once the customer inserts or taps their card or digital wallet to the EFTPOS terminal, an authorisation request is sent to the customer's bank to verify the payment. Once approved, the funds are transferred and payment is complete.
You'll need a CommBank EFTPOS terminal to take payments. You can't use your phone as an EFTPOS machine.
A point-of-sale system or software can help your business process transactions, report on sales and manage inventory needs. The benefits of using a POS system include more accurate reporting and reduction in manual errors when it comes to processing transactions.
Our terminals accept physical and digital Mastercard, Visa, American Express, JCB, eftpos and UnionPay.
CommBank EFTPOS terminals allow you to customise surcharges. Surcharging isn't set up by default on your EFTPOS terminal; it must be activated by calling 1800 230 177. Instructions for customising surcharges vary per terminal. More on surcharging
Funds are settled same day for all EFTPOS transactions made before 9.30pm (Sydney/Melbourne time) for eligible customers with a CommBank Business Transaction Account and a linked CommBank terminal.
If settling into a non-CommBank account, payments made Tuesday–Thursday are settled same day. Payments made on Friday settle Saturday morning. Payments made on Saturday, Sunday and Monday settle Tuesday morning. Excludes funds settled by Union Pay and Amex.
