Biggest monthly fall in retail trade in 7 years

Craig James explains the likely reasons for the 0.6% decline in retail trade and gives the outlook for the coming months.

August saw a 0.6% decline in retail trade, the largest monthly fall in seven years, according to Craig James, Chief Economist at CommSec.

The decline in retail trade affected all states. NSW performed the best, down -0.2% in the month. Victoria and Queensland performed the worst, falling -0.8%.
