Changes you can expect on 29 September 2026

  • The card name changes to Smart credit card.

  • You can no longer earn or redeem CommBank Awards points using your card from this date.  
  • CommBank Yello is changing. Eligible customers can start earning CommBank Yello points from eligible credit card spend, if they meet Yello eligibility criteria.
  • The monthly fee waiver if you spend at least $2,000 will be removed from 1 January 2027.*
  • A 3.5% international transaction fee will apply to purchases made in foreign currencies.
  • Minimum credit limit for new credit card applications will be $2,000.
  • We’re making some changes to the included insurances. See details below.

Smart credit card key features

A maximum charge of $300 or a flat fee of $4.00 applies if your closing balance on previous business day was in credit. This is charged for cash advances from CommBank branches or other Australian financial institutions, ATMs, overseas terminals or financial institutions, funds transfers using CommBank networks and purchases of cash equivalent items, such as gambling, lottery tickets and money transfers.8

Included insurances

The insurance included with a Smart credit card is changing on 29 September 2026.

From this date, international travel insurance will be underwritten by Allied World Assurance Company, arranged through Cover Genius.

CommBank Awards FAQs

Continue earning and redeeming your Awards points until the CommBank Awards program closes on 29 September 2026. After this:

  • Any unredeemed Awards points will automatically be converted to CommBank Yello points and will be visible within the CommBank app or NetBank. This will occur by 7 October 2026.
  • After your Awards points are converted to Yello points, the primary cardholder can access and redeem them through CommBank Yello if eligible to participate in the CommBank Yello Program at the time of redemption. Additional cardholders won't be able to view or redeem them through CommBank Yello.

  • You can request your points to be converted to cash by contacting us until 31 December 2026, or
  • Hold onto your points and redeem them through CommBank Yello if you become eligible. Converted points can be redeemed through CommBank Yello for up to two years after they are issued.

Your remaining Awards points will be converted into a one-off cash back amount and applied to your credit card account.

  • On 29 September 2026, your remaining Awards points will be transferred to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program.
  • You will also receive a pro-rata refund for the latest annual Qantas Frequent Flyer opt in fee paid before the CommBank Awards Program closes.
  • From 1 October 2026, Qantas Frequent Flyer opt-in through CommBank Yello will only be available on selected eligible CommBank credit cards. Customers with a Smart Awards credit card, including those who are currently opted in, will no longer be able to participate in the program through CommBank Yello. Click here to find out more.

If your credit card account was closed before the Awards Program ended, any Awards points not redeemed before the Awards Program ends, will be available for you to redeem for cash at the applicable conversion rate set by us and subject to change from time to time, by contacting us within 90 days of your account being closed. After that time, they will be forfeited.

Things you should know

* For Smart Awards credit cards, there is no monthly fee if you spend at least $2,000 on your Smart Awards credit card in your statement period to qualify for no monthly fee for that month. Otherwise the monthly fee is $19. Spend includes all purchases and cash advances made using your Smart Awards credit card, minus any refunds. This is for all transactions fully processed in the given statement period (not pending transactions). From your first statement issued on or after 1 January 2027, the monthly fee waiver based on spend will be removed and the $19 monthly fee will apply.

# Value is calculated by adding together the annual approximate retail value of travel and dining credits, DashPass membership, travel insurance. Actual retail pricing may vary over time. Terms and conditions and exclusions apply.2,5

1 CommBank Yello points on eligible Travel Booking and Dine In Deals transactions will be available from 1 October 2026.

Points earn per $1 spent on Travel Booking and Dine In Deals are based on your Yello eligibility points earn, plus the following bonus points:

  • Hotel and Car rental bookings made through Travel Booking, via the CommBank app: 5 bonus points.
  • Flight bookings made through Travel Booking, via the CommBank app: 2 bonus points.
  • Dining out using Dine In Deals via the CommBank app:

    • CommBank Yello Diamond: 5 bonus points
    • CommBank Yello Gold: 3 bonus points
    • CommBank Yello Plus: 2 bonus points
    • CommBank Yello: 1 bonus points

How you earn or redeem CommBank Yello points will be subject to the CommBank Yello Program Terms & Conditions. You only earn points on eligible transactions (this excludes, for example, BPAY transactions, cash advances, balance transfers and payments to the Australian Taxation Office unless made using a Business Awards, Business Gold Awards and Business Platinum credit card).

2 While you have an open and active Smart credit card, dining credits will be applied to your Dine In Deals account and may take up to 7 business days from the date they are granted, issued or credited, although in some cases it may take longer. Dining credits are not transferable or exchangeable for cash. Unused dining credits can accumulate until they expire.

Dining credits are only issued where the applicable card fee has been charged. Where the fee is waived or not charged, no dining credit will be provided for that period, except where the fee is waived by meeting the minimum spend requirement (Smart: $2,000 per statement period). The dining credit expires 12 months after it is issued. Dining credit benefit is subject to change, and removal without notice and at our discretion.

In the event that you no longer hold an open and active Eligible CommBank Card, any unused dining credits will be forfeited.

5 While you have an open and active Smart credit card, Travel Credits will be applied to your Travel Booking Wallet within 7 business days of the grant or issuance, but in some cases may take longer, and have a 1-year expiry from the date granted, issued, and/or credited. These travel credits are not transferable or exchangeable for cash. Expiry dates can be viewed in your Wallet & Offers page of the Travel Booking website.

Travel credits are only issued for a card account statement period where the applicable card fee has been charged for that statement period. When redeeming these travel credits, the entire value of your Travel Booking Wallet will be applied to pay for all or a portion of the booking amount in a single transaction. If the booking amount is less than the total value of your travel credits, the remaining balance of travel credits will remain in your Travel Booking Wallet for future use.

In the event that you no longer hold an open and active Eligible CommBank Card, you will forfeit all accumulated travel credits.

7 To gain access to participating airport lounges, you must register your Smart credit card on the Mastercard Travel Pass app or mastercardtravelpass.dragonpass.com generate a membership QR code and present this along with your boarding pass for validation. Each time you visit a lounge, you will be charged a lounge visit fee on your Smart card. You will also be charged a lounge visit fee for each additional guest you bring with you. Please note, your lounge access may be blocked if your primary account is closed, in arrears, reported lost or stolen, or has been blocked by us for any reason. To redeem an offer visit the Mastercard Travel Pass app or mastercardtravelpass.dragonpass.com to select your preferred offer and generate an offer QR code. Present the valid offer QR code to the cashier and redeem the offer. Please note, offers vary by location.
