David Cohen is the Commonwealth Bank’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer. He commenced in this role in November 2018. David is also a Director of ASB Bank Limited, Commonwealth Bank’s wholly-owned New Zealand subsidiary, and the President Commissioner of PT Bank Commonwealth, CBA’s retail and business banking operation based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
David is responsible for the Group’s core customer relations functions, Group Customer Relations and Group Customer Advocacy, as well as the Group’s Mergers and Acquisitions team and the International Financial Services business. In addition to his business responsibilities, David supports the Chief Executive Officer on Group-wide initiatives to build a better bank for the future with a key focus on building and enhancing our engagement with government, regulators, industry and community groups. He is a member of the Executive Leadership Team.
Prior to commencing as Deputy CEO David was the Group Chief Risk Officer, a position he commenced in July 2016. In that role he was responsible for effective risk management across all risk types (credit, market, operational, compliance, liquidity, financial crime compliance and insurance), and risk governance across the Group.
David joined Commonwealth Bank in 2008 as Group General Counsel and was responsible for advising the CEO and the Board on legal matters, and leading the Group's legal team. In 2011 he took on responsibility for Human Resources and from 2012 he led the Corporate Affairs function with responsibility for government affairs, communications, sustainability and corporate governance.
Prior to joining Commonwealth Bank, David had been General Counsel of AMP since 2003. Before joining AMP he was a partner with law firm Allens Arthur Robinson for 12 years.
